The Financial Reset: How to Bounce Back When Life Pollutes Your Plan
Financial Allergies: What to Do When Your Budget Gets Exposed to the Unexpected.
I had a plan. For the last few months, I was supposed to be right here with you, posting financial nuggets and building momentum. Then, life happened. A run-in with an airborne allergen didn't just take my breath away—it took my energy, my focus, and my schedule.
If you’ve ever had a 'financial allergy'—an emergency expense or a sudden job shift that knocked your budget off the rails—you know exactly how I’ve felt for the last 90+ days. You feel like the progress is lost. But here’s the secret: The 'Reset' is where the real coaching happens.
1. The Physical/Mental Flush: Before you touch the money, you have to clear the fog. Give yourself permission to have been 'out of it'. If you’re beating yourself up for missing a month or so of savings, you’re too stressed to make good decisions. Breathe. You’re back now.
2. Assess the Damage (Without Judgment): Look at the numbers. Did the 'exposure' cost you money? Did you overspend while you were recovering? It’s okay. We don't look at the bank account to feel guilty; we look at it to find our new starting line.
3. The 'Next Gen' Micro-Step: Don’t try to fix the whole year today. What is one thing you can do in the next 10 minutes? Transfer $20 to savings? Unsubscribe from that one tempting retail email? Just get one 'win' under your belt.
Life is messy, and your finances won't always just fall back into place. As I work through getting myself, & my own finances back on track while also working towards my Master Financial Coach certification, I’m reminded that the best plan isn't the one that never fails—it’s the one you know how to return to.
I’m back in the hub. Let’s get back to work together.
