The Biggest Roadblock to Financial Clarity (It’s Not Your Income)
At some point we’ve all thought, "If I just made 20% more, all my stress would disappear."
It’s the great financial mirage. We tell ourselves that the math is the problem, so we focus entirely on the numbers. But as a coach, I see a different pattern: people get the raise, the bonus, or the new job yet the feeling of "not having enough" stays exactly the same.
Why?
Because the biggest roadblock to financial clarity isn't your income.
It’s your relationship with your money.
The "Income Myth"
More money provides options, but it doesn't provide a plan. Without a clear understanding of your habits and values, a higher income often just leads to "lifestyle creep"—where your expenses rise to meet your new salary, leaving you just as exhausted as before.
If the foundation is shaky, adding more weight to the building won’t make it more stable.
It’s About Behavior, Not Just Math
Finance is often taught as a series of equations. But in real life, money is emotional. It’s tied to our security, our social status, and our childhood experiences.
When we only focus on the "advice" side—the spreadsheets and the interest rates—we ignore the most important variable: You. Let’s look at the "why" behind the numbers:
Why does spending feel like a relief in the moment but a burden later?
Why does looking at the bank account feel so intimidating?
What are you actually trying to achieve with your hard-earned work?
A Question for You
If you doubled your income tomorrow, what is one financial stressor that would still be there?
Take a second to really think about that. If the stressor is "I don't know where it's all going" or "I don't feel in control," more money won't fix it. But changing your perspective will.
